More Factorio Updates

Hey everyone, get ready for some exciting news! Today, we’re launching several updates and quality-of-life improvements in anticipation of the Factorio Space Age launch tomorrow. I can’t contain my excitement, and I hope you’re just as thrilled as I am. Let’s dive into this together!

New Configuration Options

We have been working to integrate more of the Factorio options and configurations into the panel. Here is a list of all the new additions:

Automatic Mod Updates

We are integrating a mod update into our Factorio hosting, so there will be no more manual uploads when installing updates. Instead, once mods are installed, you can now just run a reinstall on your server, which will automatically check for updated versions of any installed mods. Remember, our reinstall is a soft reinstall and will only affect the server executable and other required data to update the game. As always, backup your server before installing any updates or mods.

New Startup Integrations

• Space Age expansion: toggle on/off
• Load Latest Save: Add the ability to update the startup command to set to load the most recent save or autosave in the saves folder
• Auto Save Only on Server: toggle on/off
• Ignore Player Limit for Returning Players: toggle on/off
• Non-Blocking Saving: toggle on/off
• Server Pausing: toggle on/off
• Auto Pause: toggle on/off

Space Age Launch

Here is what the Factorio Space Age Launch will look like on AleForge. On October 20, during the evening hours of the Eastern US time zone, we will push the above update to our panel for all customers. The Space Age release will be on October 21 at 7:00 AM EDT. We will be ready for this, and below is the process we will be following:

• Our staff will monitor for the update on the Facotrio headless API.
• Once we see the update released for headless servers, we will verify the API call to ensure nothing has changed (Devs said nothing should, but you never know)
• When we confirm the automatic download is working, we will launch a test server
• We will then evaluate the configuration files to ensure nothing significant has changed (Devs confirmed before release)
• Next we will test the server startup and loading of the Space Age Expansion (We have prior access, so we just need to verify on the release copy)
• We will post a notice in Discord and on our Site about the status and anything else our customers need to know We expect the above to take 5-10 minutes, and if we hit any roadblocks or issues, a max of 30-60 minutes.

I want to give the Factorio devs a shoutout for being fantastic to work with. We reviewed the expansion details before release with the dev team so that we could ensure full compatibility with our services on day one. If there are any major hosting issues after launch, we will work directly with them to resolve the bugs as quickly as possible.

Upgrading to Factorio 2.0 and Enabling Space Age

From the details we have received, you can upgrade your existing saves to the latest base Factorio release and then enable Space Age. Version 2.0 is a major release and includes small breaking changes to existing games. These changes will happen whether or not the Space Age expansion mods are enabled or not. The recommendation we suggest is to start fresh to enjoy it all again.
