These services often over-allocate limited resources, resulting in potential lag, slow response times, and reduced performance during peak gaming periods. Additionally, the shared hosting environment means performance fluctuations caused by other game servers sharing the same resources. This could negatively impact the gaming experience and compromise server reliability. Therefore, it’s important to consider the trade-offs between pricing and performance when choosing a game server hosting solution.

AleForge, however, mitigates most of these issues with our operational philosophy with multiple prongs of attack. First, we use high-end hardware even for our standard plans. If available, we target using an AMD Ryzen 5950X that is water-cooled, allowing us to run it at a blistering 4.7 GHz permanent turbo in every one of its cores. If we can’t source this hardware in a region where we find comparable hardware, such as in the Asia Pacific region, we only offer Standard plans on Ryzen 5600X and 5800X boosted to 4.6 GHz. Our premium plans blow this out of the water with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950x overclock to a toasty 5.5-5.7 GHz on all cores. Powerful hardware comes at a significant cost but allows us to provide top-notch performance and reliability for all our Minecraft hosting plans.

The next thing AleForge does to mitigate any issues related to shared hosting is never to overload our dedicated servers. We leave ample headroom on the CPU, RAM, and Storage usage to ensure customer servers are never competing with each other for resources. We target 70% CPU utilization for CPU usage, which is our magic number to prevent any CPU steals. The RAM we target is 80% utilization to ensure headroom for usage spikes such as booting up your server. We also include monitoring and alerting that wakes our game engineers. If a Node starts seeing increased usage, we will send notifications and migrate the noisy servers to a different node to balance the load.

During the Palworld launch, we were hit hard with orders, and the game performed poorly due to its many memory leaks. Our team worked around the clock with our community and mitigated the most significant impacts of the memory leaks. Our Palworld servers stayed online for 12+ hours when our competition crashed in less than an hour. In the same vein, we also optimize Minecraft with our custom-compiled Java binary that increases world generation performance by ~20% and the central thread performance by ~10%
