Terraria 1.4.5: Dead Cells Crossover and “Final” Update (Probably)
Terraria 1.4.5: Dead Cells Crossover and “Final” Update (Probably)
Remember when Terraria’s Journey’s End was supposed to be the final update? Well, Re-Logic just can’t seem to put their masterpiece down, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier about it. The upcoming 1.4.5 patch started as a “relatively small” Dead Cells crossover but has grown into something much more substantial. From whips to hoppers, and a whole lot of quality-of-life improvements, this update is shaping up to be another fantastic addition to an already incredible game.
Dead Cells Meets Terraria
The headline feature of 1.4.5 is undoubtedly the Dead Cells crossover, bringing the roguelike-Metroidvania’s signature style to Terraria. Players can dress up as the Beheaded (Dead Cells’ protagonist) and wield iconic weapons like The Flint and The Killing Deck. But the crossover goes beyond just items - Re-Logic is recreating the Flask Room from Dead Cells, complete with hanging flasks that can display items similar to Item Frames. The mashup feels natural given both games’ emphasis on fluid combat and progression. Dead Cells’ weapons have been thoughtfully adapted to fit Terraria’s various damage types, including the Mushroom Staff (which summons a glow-eyed Mushroom Boi minion) and a Barnacle sentry. There’s even a Health Fountain that buffs players when they interact with it - perfect for those tough boss fights.
Combat Gets a Major Overhaul
Speaking of boss fights, summoners are getting some serious love this patch. A whole collection of new whips is being added, each themed after major bosses:
- A Moon Lord whip (presumably endgame-tier)
- The Soulscourge (Corruption-themed)
- The Vasculash (Crimson-themed)
- A Duke Fishron whip
- The Starcrash (Meteorite-themed)
- A Plantera whip that releases homing petals
The update also introduces several transformation mounts that put a fresh spin on mobility. You can become a velociraptor (complete with a pterodactyl for flying!), a bat, or even a rat. And if that’s not your style, there’s a new roller skate mount that lets you grind on minecart tracks - Tony Hawk would be proud. Armor isn’t being left behind either, with upgraded versions of both Mining and Angler sets on the way. While we don’t know the exact stats yet, these improvements should make early-game mining and fishing more rewarding.
Quality of Life: Re-Logic’s Love Letter to Players
Perhaps the most telling aspect of this update is the sheer number of quality-of-life improvements. It’s clear that Re-Logic hasn’t just been adding content - they’ve been listening to their community. The new Seeds Menu is a perfect example, allowing players to mix different secret world seeds for unique combinations. Want to play as a vampire who spawns underground and burns in sunlight? How about an ocean filled with Shimmer? The possibilities are intriguing, to say the least. Other standout improvements include: No more accidentally rolling past Legendary when reforging A minion counter under your buff icons (summoners rejoice!) Detailed boss fight statistics showing damage dealt and fight duration More inclusive character creation with mix-and-match styles and voices Recently played characters and worlds now appear at the top of the menu It’s always abundantly clear when a developer loves their game, and Re-Logic has always been close to the top then it comes to caring for their baby. But Wube isn’t far behind with the recent drop of Factorio 2.0 and their Space Age expansion.
New Mechanics Shake Things Up
The update isn’t just about refinement - it’s adding several new mechanics that could change how you play. During thunderstorms, you’ll need to watch out for Boulder Rain and lightning strikes that can hit both enemies and trees. This weather overhaul adds a new layer of environmental danger. Storage and automation fans will love the new Hoppers, which can collect dropped items and store them in chests (exactly like Minecraft’s hoppers). Combined with the ability to store liquids in Bubbles, this opens up new possibilities for farms and automated systems. The humble slime is getting some interesting tweaks too. Their behavior now changes based on what they contain - put a Cloud Block in one and it’ll jump extra high, add Moonglow and it’ll light up the area and plant herbs. There’s even a chance for slimes to have Dart Traps inside them, turning these basic enemies into mobile turrets.
A Feast for the Senses
Re-Logic hasn’t forgotten about the audiovisual experience either. The update includes new boss themes for The Twins and Eater of Worlds, along with at least 8 other music tracks. The sound design extends to gameplay too - you can now customize your character’s hurt sound with options ranging from zombie groans to arcade machine bleeps. Visually, the game is getting some nice touches with updated sprites for various items and enemies (including Moon Lord himself), new sun and cloud effects, and even ambient insects flying through wild grass. A new “film noir” shader is also being added for those who want to give their adventures a classic cinema feel.
Looking Forward
While we don’t have an exact release date yet, 1.4.5 is scheduled for 2024. What started as a “relatively small” crossover has grown into another substantial update that shows just how much care Re-Logic puts into Terraria. From major additions like the Dead Cells content to tiny details like customizable hurt sounds, every aspect of the game is getting attention. Whether this will truly be the “final” update remains to be seen (we’ve heard that before!), but one thing’s for certain - Terraria just keeps getting better. If you haven’t jumped back in recently, 1.4.5 might be the perfect excuse to start a new adventure. Want to bring some friends along?
