Palworld Server Modding | A Comprehensive Guide

Palworld Server Modding | A Comprehensive Guide

Mods offer unparalleled customization for any game, and this is especially important for survival crafting games like Palworld. With so many things to do and ways to play, sometimes you just want certain parts out of the way, or maybe you want more content for the things you do enjoy. Either way, mods are the way to go. But can you mod Palworld servers? Yes - absolutely! And we’ll be covering how to mod your server, where to find mods, and more throughout this post.

Why Mods?

Before we get into finding mods, I want to elaborate on why some people choose to mod their game. If you’ve ever played ARK you’ll know just how unbearably grindy survival games can be. In Palworld’s case, this is somewhat mitigated by the Pals working at your base but it’s not perfect, and mods can help you find that perfect balance.

Beyond that, there are many mods that target specific frustrating mechanics like breeding time or carry weight, and some that are purely cosmetic. Ultimately, it’s about customizing your experience beyond what the in game world settings allow. And at this point there’s more than enough mods to fine tune your experience, with more coming out every day. So where do you find mods for Palworld?

Finding Palworld Mods

Thanks to Palworld’s explosive popularity there’s hundreds of mods available, but how do you find what you’re looking for? You have a number of options:

  • Nexus Mods: One of the biggest mod hosts out there, has the most extensive library.
  • CurseForge: Similar in variety to Nexus but has better filtering options. (This will matter later)
  • r/PalworldMods: This is the primary modding community for Palworld, if you’re interested in making mods or have an idea you want to share, this is the place to go.

But I’ll save you some time and go over some of the best mods I’ve found so far.

The Best Mods for Palworld Servers

Quick disclaimer: AleForge and most other providers only support .pak mods (.pak is a .zip specifically for games). We use Linux to host our servers for performance reasons, and the scripting system other mods use (UE4SS) won’t run on Linux. We’re working on a solution that should be available in the near future. If you want to know when it’s ready, hop in the discord.

This is why CurseForge’s filtering options are important, as they allow you to find .pak mods super easily. Now, onto the mods!

BaseCamp Pal Sick Buff

When I played with my friends - no matter how hard we tried - we couldn’t keep our pals from getting sick. Turns out, this is an issue with dedicated servers and there’s no fix yet (to my knowledge). But this mod makes it so them being sick isn’t an issue.

Duck’s Progressive Bases

I really love the base mechanics in Palworld, but 3 just wasn’t enough for my group since we were all in the same guild. But this mod allows us to have a few hubs and our own plots. Though, I would be careful using this on larger servers.

Reduced Item Weights

Carry capacity and item weights are a common sight in survival games, and one of the first things to get modded out. It’s a mechanic that’s added to balance out the game and keep you from progressing too quickly, but the moment you get past early game it just becomes a nuisance.

Fast Linear Level Curve

Even with the EXP gain cranked to the max, leveling becomes painfully slow in the late game. This mod aims to speed that up. And it has multiple versions available, so you can really customize how fast you level at each stage of the game.

Those are just a few of the extensive mod options for Palworld, and I highly recommend you take a look for yourself. However - be careful, Palworld modding is still very new so there’s going to be stability issues. And it may be tempting to go ham and grab every mod you see, but each mod will take additional resources to run. With that in mind, once you’ve figured out what mods you want to use, how do you get them running?

How to Install Mods on a Palworld Server

For .pak mods this is relatively easy:

  1. Download a mod of your choosing

  2. Extract the .zip and copy the .pak

  3. Navigate to Palworld\Pal\Content\Paks

  4. Create a folder called ~mods and paste your .pak into it

The folder must be called ~mods exactly, I recommend copy/pasting the name to be sure.

Once they’re installed on the server, anyone who wants to join must have the same mods installed on their game. The process is very similar to installing mods on the server, but just in case you get stuck here’s a tutorial.

Conclusion

Playing Palworld with your friends is a wonderful experience and mods only serve to enhance it. The modding scene is still relatively new but it’s getting better by the day. The developer Pocketpair is openly in favor of modding and wants to add Steam workshop support in the future. So mods aren’t going anywhere.

If you get stuck or can’t get your mods to work, you can open a ticket in our Discord or on the website and we’ll help you out. And if you haven’t gotten a server and want to know more about Palworld server hosting, we have a comprehensive guide. But if you’re ready to begin your modded Palworld adventure, grab one of our hosting plans and you’ll be on your way. Happy pal taming!
