Pick the food on your Breeding Farm and how many cycles you will run. See the chance of at least one mutated egg, how many eggs you should expect, and which rainbow passives show up on hatches.
Mutation landed in 1.0. Every bred egg can mutate into a stronger hatch with rainbow passives. People digging through the files put the base at ~1% per egg, or ~3% with Deluxe Vegetable Cake. Last checked 2026-07-13.
One cycle is one egg production tick after the farm has food. Vegetable Cake makes two eggs per cycle.
Chance of at least one mutated egg
78.2%
Numbers come from digs into the 1.0 files (base 1% per egg, +2 percentage points with Deluxe Vegetable Cake). Pocketpair has not posted official rates. We will update if better data shows up.
Each egg rolls on its own. Bad luck streaks do not make the next egg luckier. The math is 1 - (1 - p)n. Mutated eggs look different in the farm, so you know before you hatch them.
Food sets the per-egg chance. Cycle count (and Vegetable Cake's extra egg) sets how many rolls you get.
Reports line up on Alpha status, two condensation stars, very high IVs (often 90+), and rainbow passives. Those can stack with passives inherited from the parents.
Most mutated eggs hatch a different, stronger species. Not always. Some pairs keep spitting out the same result (Hartalis pairs often make Aegidron). Others have produced same-species Alphas or mixed outcomes. Nobody has pinned the species rule in the files yet. Use the breeding calculator for the normal child, then treat mutation as a separate roll.
Need the parent pair sorted before you farm mutations?
Four passives sit under MutationPal_* in the files. Call
them mutation-linked, not exclusive. Immortality has also shown up from
relic washing chips. Full named list (all ranks, Surgery tags) is on
the
passive skills page.
These are the ones most tied to mutated hatches.
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Immortality | Attack +15%, Pal auto health regeneration rate +100%, Life Steal +5% |
| Idiosyncratic | Pal & player auto health regeneration rate +50%, Defense +25%, immune to Poison and Burn damage |
| Babysitter | Egg production speed +30% and incubation speed +30% for Pals assigned to a Breeding Farm |
| Heavily Armored | Immune to explosion damage |
You can get these elsewhere too (rare fishing is one example). They still show up on mutated Pals.
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Skymarcher | Mounted jump count +2 |
| Lightfooted | Mounted jump count +1 |
| Ranch Master | Farming work suitability +2 |
| Lavish Hospitality | Dropped items +100% (only the Pal carrying it; pays out on capture and butcher) |
Farms and incubators keep working while you are offline, which helps when you are rolling a lot of eggs for a mutation. Leave RAM headroom if you automate heavily.

Get MasterworkEvery Breeding Farm egg can mutate on its own roll. Mutated eggs look different in the farm and unlock an achievement when you hatch them. The hatch is usually Alpha, two condensation stars, very high IVs, and rainbow passives on top of whatever the parents passed down.
People digging through the 1.0 files put the base at about 1% per egg. Deluxe Vegetable Cake adds 2 percentage points, so about 3% per egg. Pocketpair has not posted official numbers.
No. It does not change the per-egg rate. It does make two eggs each cycle, so you get twice as many rolls for cheaper food. Deluxe Vegetable Cake is the one that raises the rate.
No. Each egg is its own roll. The calculator stacks them with 1 - (1 - p)^n for the chance of at least one mutated egg after n eggs.
Nothing solid points that way. Same for monitoring stations or Ancient Hatchery. Use Deluxe Vegetable Cake for a higher rate, or Vegetable Cake if you want more eggs per cycle.
Immortality, Idiosyncratic, Babysitter, and Heavily Armored show up under MutationPal_* in the files. Mutated Pals can also roll Skymarcher, Lightfooted, Ranch Master, and Lavish Hospitality, which also drop from other sources.
