Can console players connect to my server?
Can Console Players Join Minecraft Servers?
Section titled “Can Console Players Join Minecraft Servers?”At this time, console editions of Minecraft do not allow players to connect directly to an IP address. This prevents console players from joining multiplayer servers the usual way. However, some community projects have helped bridge the gap.
This guide explains what those projects are, which consoles they work on, and how to let Bedrock players join a Java server running Paper.
Quick Overview
Section titled “Quick Overview”| Your situation | What to use |
|---|---|
| Console player joining a Bedrock server | Phantom or another community project |
| Bedrock player joining a Java (Paper) server | GeyserMC and Floodgate |
| Java Edition player joining a Bedrock server | Not possible. See Java Edition |
What Community Projects Are Available?
Section titled “What Community Projects Are Available?”Phantom
Section titled “Phantom”Phantom is a tool that allows some console players to connect to Bedrock and PocketMine-MP servers through a proxy server. Community members have contributed to the project by testing it and adding to it over the past year.

Android App (Reddit Community Project)
Section titled “Android App (Reddit Community Project)”Another Reddit user created an alternative method that lets players connect to dedicated Bedrock servers through an app on their Android devices.
Note: We haven’t tested this one, so we can’t guarantee how well it works or how mature it is.

Other Options
Section titled “Other Options”There may be other options out there, especially as more updates are released and the community grows. If you know of one, feel free to tell us about it!
Console Compatibility
Section titled “Console Compatibility”| Console | Phantom support | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox One Edition | Supported | We are positive that Phantom is supported. |
| PlayStation 4 Edition | Reported to work | We have no direct tests at this time, but we have several reports of successful use. |
| Nintendo Switch Edition | Not supported | The Switch doesn’t support LAN mode, so Phantom doesn’t work at this time. We confirmed this with testing. |
What About Paper Servers?
Section titled “What About Paper Servers?”If you run a Paper server (Java Edition), you can let Bedrock players join by adding two plugins:
- GeyserMC translates Bedrock connections so they can join a Java server.
- Floodgate lets Bedrock players join with only their Bedrock account, without needing to own Java Edition.
Bedrock players then share the same world, chat, and gameplay as Java players. Java players keep joining as normal.
Note: Console players still can’t enter an IP address directly. They need one of the workarounds above to reach the server, even when Geyser is installed.
What You Need
Section titled “What You Need”- A Java server running Paper (or Spigot). Vanilla servers can’t use plugins.
- An extra UDP port for Bedrock connections. The default is
19132. - The Geyser-Spigot and Floodgate-Spigot plugin files, downloaded from the GeyserMC website.
How to Set It Up
Section titled “How to Set It Up”-
Go to the AleForge Panel and select your Minecraft server.
-
Stop the server.
-
Open File Manager and go to the
pluginsfolder. -
Upload
Geyser-Spigot.jarandFloodgate-Spigot.jar. -
Start the server once so the plugins create their configuration files, then stop it again.
-
Open the Geyser configuration file and check these settings:
bedrock:address: 0.0.0.0port: 19132 # your allocated UDP portremote:address: 127.0.0.1port: 25565 # your Java server portauth-type: floodgate -
Save the file and start the server.
-
Look for a message in the Console saying Geyser has started.
The ports above are examples. Use the Java port and the extra UDP port that belong to your own server.
How Bedrock Players Connect
Section titled “How Bedrock Players Connect”- Open Minecraft (Bedrock Edition) and go to the server list.
- Add a new server with any name.
- Enter your server IP as the address.
- Enter the Geyser UDP port (for example,
19132) as the port. This is not the Java port. - Save, then select the server to join.
With Floodgate, Bedrock players get a dot (.) in front of their username by default. This stops them from clashing with Java usernames.
Things to Know
Section titled “Things to Know”- Bedrock players cannot use Java mods.
- Some plugins that rely on Java-specific behavior may act oddly for Bedrock players.
- Keep Geyser and Floodgate up to date, and make sure they match your server version.
Troubleshooting Geyser
Section titled “Troubleshooting Geyser”| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| “Unable to connect to world” | The UDP port may be blocked or not allocated. Check that the Bedrock port is open and correct. |
| Bedrock players are asked to log in | Floodgate may be missing, or auth-type isn’t set to floodgate. |
| Players can’t connect at all | Check that Geyser is installed, matches your server software, and that players use the Geyser port instead of the Java port. |
| Chat or signature errors | Try setting enforce-secure-profile=false in server.properties. |
Need Help Setting Up or Troubleshooting?
Section titled “Need Help Setting Up or Troubleshooting?”Phantom and the Android app are community-made and are not all affiliated with AleForge, so we may not be able to help with troubleshooting them. However, our team is still here to help where possible.
What About Java Edition?
Section titled “What About Java Edition?”On its own, Java Edition is not cross-compatible with Bedrock or console editions. If you play on Java Edition, you can only play with other Java Edition players and on Java Edition servers.
The exception is a Java server with GeyserMC installed (see above), which lets Bedrock players join that Java server. Java players still cannot join a Bedrock server.
