How to Update Your 7 Days to Die Server

Game updates ship regularly. Run them through the panel so your server stays on the same build as your players’ Steam clients.

  1. Open the AleForge Panel
  2. Stop the server
  3. Create a backup from Backups
  4. On Startup, confirm Check For Updates is enabled
  5. Start the server — it downloads updates before boot

Watch Console for SteamCMD output and wait until the server reports ready.

If the version looks stuck or files seem corrupt:

  1. Stop the server
  2. Open File Manager
  3. Delete the steamapps folder at the server root
  4. Start the server again (with Check For Updates on)

Your saves under .local/share/7DaysToDie/ are separate from steamapps and are not removed by this step.

  • Update mods in the Mods folder to builds that match the new game version
  • Have every player verify game files in Steam
  • If joins fail after a patch, see Troubleshooting

To run the latest experimental client build on the server, see Opt in to experimental branches.

For the generic SteamCMD process shared across games, see also How to Update Steam Based Servers.
