How do I change the name and description on my Vintage Story server?

Your server name and description appear in the in-game public server listing when advertising is enabled. A clear name and short description help players find the right community.

Change name and description (Startup)

1. Open the Blacksmith’s Portal and select your Vintage Story server
2. Stop the server
3. Go to Startup
4. Set [ADMIN] Server Name to the name you want in the browser
5. Optional: set [ADMIN] Server Description (supports simple VTML such as <br> for line breaks)
6. Optional: set [ADMIN] Server URL if you want a website or Discord link on the listing
7. Optional: set [ADMIN] Welcome Message for the join message ({0} is replaced with the player name)
8. Start the server

These Startup values are written into data/serverconfig.json on each start. Prefer Startup over editing the config file directly, or your changes can be overwritten on the next restart.

If you want a private server, add a password or turn off the public server list.
