How do I optimize my Return to Moria server?
Return to Moria dedicated servers can be tuned to balance performance and gameplay smoothness. On AleForge, the most impactful settings are on the Startup page.
Optimizing your Return to Moria server
Section titled “Optimizing your Return to Moria server”Using Blacksmith’s Portal
Section titled “Using Blacksmith’s Portal”- Open the Blacksmith’s Portal
- Stop your server
- Go to
Startup - Adjust these variables:
| Startup variable | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Server FPS |
60 |
Target server framerate. Try 30 if the server uses too much CPU. Higher values rarely improve performance. |
Loaded Area Limit |
12 |
Maximum loaded map areas (range 4–32). Supports ~8 players well at the default. Lower values reduce RAM, CPU, and bandwidth usage. |
- Start your server
Suggested starting points
Section titled “Suggested starting points”| Server size | Server FPS |
Loaded Area Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Small group (1–4 players) | 60 |
8 |
| Default / medium group | 60 |
12 |
| Large group (up to 8 connected) | 60 |
12–16 |
Return to Moria allows unlimited total players on a server, but only 8 players can be connected at the same time.
Increasing Loaded Area Limit above 12 may reduce loading walls but uses significantly more memory and CPU.
