How do I enable or disable the public server list on my Vintage Story server?

When public listing is enabled, Vintage Story publishes your server to the master server list so players can discover it in Multiplayer. Disable it for private worlds that should only be joined by IP/hostname.

Make sure you have set a server name first. Advertising requires a valid server name.

Enable or disable public listing (Startup)

Section titled “Enable or disable public listing (Startup)”
  1. Open the Blacksmith’s Portal and select your Vintage Story server
  2. Stop the server
  3. Go to Startup
  4. Set [ADMIN] Public Server to:
    • true to list the server publicly
    • false to keep it off the public list
  5. Start the server

This setting is written to AdvertiseServer in data/serverconfig.json on start. Prefer Startup over editing the file or using temporary console commands, or the Startup value will win on the next restart.

  • Set [ADMIN] Public Server to false, or keep listing on but add a password
  • Prefer the whitelist for invite-only communities
  • Share the hostname from your Blacksmith’s Portal dashboard with trusted players — see how to connect
