How to Change Holdfast Game Mode
Holdfast offers several game modes, from large-scale land battles to naval engagements. On AleForge, game modes are configured in your server’s config file in holdfastnaw-dedicated/configs.
Available Game Modes

The Config Generator also supports Army Assault, Army Conquest, Coastal Siege, Invasion, Melee Arena, Naval Assault, and Offensive. Use it to set per-map game modes in your rotation.
Changing Game Mode via Config
Section titled “Changing Game Mode via Config”Using the Config Generator (Recommended)
Section titled “Using the Config Generator (Recommended)”- Open the AleForge Holdfast Config Generator
- Configure game modes under Map Rotations or Global Gameplay & Map Settings
- Click Generate Config, then Download Config
- Upload to
holdfastnaw-dedicated/configsvia the Blacksmith’s PortalFilestab - Set the
Config FileStartup variable to your uploaded filename - Restart your server
Editing Your Config File Manually
Section titled “Editing Your Config File Manually”- Stop your server
- Open your config file in
holdfastnaw-dedicated/configs - Change the
game_modevalue:
game_mode 0- Save and restart
Self-Hosting/Other Providers
Section titled “Self-Hosting/Other Providers”- Edit
game_modein your custom config file (notserverconfig_default.txtdirectly, see Protect Your Config on Update) - Ensure your launch script points to the correct config with
--serverConfigFilePath - Restart your server
Changing Game Mode In-Game
Section titled “Changing Game Mode In-Game”With admin access:
- Press T or Y to open chat
- Run:
/admin changegamemode 2
The server switches on the next round or map change.
Choosing the Right Game Mode

Tip: For line battles, use
20–25minute rounds. For casual public servers,10–15minutes works well.
Note: Maps must be compatible with your game mode. Land maps won’t work in Naval Battlefield mode.
