How to Change Holdfast Game Mode

Holdfast offers several game modes, from large-scale land battles to naval engagements. On AleForge, game modes are configured in your server’s config file in holdfastnaw-dedicated/configs.

Value Game Mode Description
0 Army Battlefield Large-scale land battle with capture objectives. Most popular for line battles and public servers.
1 Army Deathmatch Team or free-for-all combat focused on kills.
2 Army Siege Attackers vs. defenders at a fortified position.
3 Naval Battlefield Ship-to-ship combat on the open sea.

The Config Generator also supports Army Assault, Army Conquest, Coastal Siege, Invasion, Melee Arena, Naval Assault, and Offensive. Use it to set per-map game modes in your rotation.

  1. Open the AleForge Holdfast Config Generator
  2. Configure game modes under Map Rotations or Global Gameplay & Map Settings
  3. Click Generate Config, then Download Config
  4. Upload to holdfastnaw-dedicated/configs via the Blacksmith’s Portal Files tab
  5. Set the Config File Startup variable to your uploaded filename
  6. Restart your server
  1. Stop your server
  2. Open your config file in holdfastnaw-dedicated/configs
  3. Change the game_mode value:
game_mode 0
  1. Save and restart
  1. Edit game_mode in your custom config file (not serverconfig_default.txt directly, see Protect Your Config on Update)
  2. Ensure your launch script points to the correct config with --serverConfigFilePath
  3. Restart your server

With admin access:

  1. Press T or Y to open chat
  2. Run: /admin changegamemode 2

The server switches on the next round or map change.

Tip: For line battles, use 2025 minute rounds. For casual public servers, 1015 minutes works well.

Note: Maps must be compatible with your game mode. Land maps won’t work in Naval Battlefield mode.
