Vintage Story: Change password

A server password keeps your world private: players must enter it when joining. For an invite-only alternative, use the whitelist.

Change the password (Startup)

1. Open the Blacksmith’s Portal and select your Vintage Story server
2. Stop the server
3. Go to Startup
4. Find [ADMIN] Server Password and enter your password
5. Start the server

AleForge writes this value into data/serverconfig.json when the server starts. Leave the field empty for no password.

Remove the password

1. Stop the server
2. Clear [ADMIN] Server Password on the Startup page
3. Start the server

Share the password only with trusted players. Pairing a password with [ADMIN] Public Server set to false is a common private-server setup — see public server list settings.
